What exclusion actually means
Exclusion is the systematic sealing of every point an animal can use to enter a structure, using materials it cannot chew, tear or push through. It is construction work more than pest work – steel mesh, sheet metal, hardware cloth, sealed vents and rebuilt soffit, rather than sprays and traps.
Done properly it is permanent. A sealed roofline stays sealed. That is why HomeGuard treats exclusion as the core service and removal as the step that precedes it.
How small a gap actually matters
This is the part homeowners consistently underestimate. A house mouse needs a gap about the width of a pencil. A rat needs roughly the diameter of a quarter. Bats can use a slot no wider than the gap along a poorly bedded ridge cap.
Which is why walking the perimeter and sealing the obvious holes rarely works. The gaps that matter are usually the ones that look like normal construction.
